James H. Blake High School April 2019

The science and environmental studies staff at Blake High School was really interested in exposing their students to EV’s.
Some suggestions:
-Reach out to your child’s teacher and present your ideas, so that they can be communicated to other staff members.  Meet early (like a month ahead) to present what you have in mind.  Remember, these are busy folks, so try to be as complete and succinct as possible.  Show pictures, and let them preview any handouts you have.  Keep it simple by having no more than one and don’t expect every student to want one.
– Send out a map to drivers, if they have to be in a specific place.  A map to the school and a map of the school, if needed.
-Make sure school security (i.e. make sure the teacher touches base with security) knows you’ll be there and where.  See if drivers need to check in/check out at the school, and make time allowance if needed.
-Have someone guide the cars in, if needed.  Try to avoid figuring out parking on the fly.
-Consider a raffle, worksheets, or some other means to have students visit every car. We labeled each car with a letter, and listed vital info on each one, i.e. range and/or battery size.  We then made a form with a simple table the students needed to fill out with the vitals, then to fill in the letter of the car with the longest range, biggest battery, etc.  The correct entries were used in a drawing for Starbucks gift cards.  The teacher helped collect the entries and pick the winners.
-Keep in mind the time constraints of the students.  They may not be able to hang around for the full hour, due to lunch, or other activities.  Thus we had drawings every 15 minutes.
