Maryland Public Service Commission Public Conference on EV Deployment in the State – July 14

The Public Service Commission of Maryland is holding Public
Conference 43 (“PC 43”) Thursday July 14, 2016 to explore the regulatory, technical, and financial barriers to the deployment of electric vehicles in the State.  It would benefit us all as EV drivers to let the Commission know of our opinions and wisdom we have gathered over the last few years.

If you are interested in going, please send me an email at rumpole@mac.com by Noon this Thursday 6/30, so I can forward your name to the conference.  The conference will be open to the public, but to testify or speak, you need to have your name submitted by Noon this Thursday 6/30

The Conference will have panels on three topics:

1) Utility Investment in Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

Should utilities deploy EV infrastructure directly?  And, if so, how should the costs be recovered?

2) The Grid-Related Costs Associated with Vehicle Fleet Electrification

Can EV time-of-use charging shift loads in lieu of hardware upgrades to the grid addressed at EV’s?

3) Energy Justice Spotlight: Access to Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and Charging
Incentives in Limited-Income and Other Under-Served Communities

EV’s cost around 3 cents/mi vs. 12 cents/mi in a typical gas car.  How do we spread the benefits of EV’s to the hard-working families of Maryland while ensuring infrastructure costs are equitably recovered?
